Mayo Clinic is one of the largest medical centers in the country dedicated to the management of pancreatic diseases, and a pioneer in the management of pancreatic conditions ranging from benign to malignant. Thus, Mayo Clinic created this one-day course with pancreas experts to highlight the recent innovations in the management of pancreatic conditions and the therapies that can be incorporated into clinical practice. This virtual, livestream course allows for interaction with the speakers.
Target Audience
Gastroenterologists, internal medicine physicians, nurse practitioners, and trainees (medical students, residents, fellows).
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify which patients qualify for pancreatic cancer screening.
- Summarize how to screen for pancreatic cancer.
- Identify patients with pancreatic cystic lesions that have high-risk stigmata or worrisome features that require additional investigation.
- Determine need for surveillance in patients with low-risk pancreatic cysts.
- Describe best-practice initial management of patients presenting with acute pancreatitis.
- Recognize complications of acute pancreatitis, including development of symptomatic pseudocysts and walled-off necrosis.
