Mayo Clinic's 9th Annual Sports Medicine for the Clinician 2025 CME conference in Orlando, Florida offers attendees the confidence to accurately diagnose and treat sports-related conditions, as well as injuries sustained during recreational physical activities. This CME conference covers appropriate testing and referral criteria, as well as what is on the horizon for diagnosis and treatment. The conference also helps to improve the specific skills in physical exam and imaging interpretation that assist in the diagnosis of conditions that may have implications for participation, performance and recovery in sports and recreational physical activities.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS  -  **** DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 31, 2024 ****
Submit an abstract for work in the area of Sports Medicine. Submitted abstracts may include: case series, case-control studies, randomized trials, outcome studies, quality improvement projects, practice innovations, and interesting case reports. These are for paper poster presentations that will be peer-reviewed. Please email FLA CME Abstracts for additional information.​ If accepted, the author is required to attend the conference. There will be a competition for the poster presentations. First place poster winner will have 100% off on the registration fee for the “10th Annual Sports Medicine for the Clinician” conference. Second place poster winner will have 50% off, and third place poster winner will have 25% off. Prizes are not transferable. The date and location of the next conference will be posted soon. 

Target Audience

This course is designed for athletic trainers, physical therapists, NPs, PAs, sports medicine physicians, family physicians, physiatrists, internists, pediatricians, ER physicians, orthopedists, and medical providers involved in the care and management of athletes and active individuals in clinic or nonoperative/nonsurgical/noninvasive settings.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the signs and symptoms of relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) in both genders.
  • List management options for progression of untreated or improperly treated relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S).
  • Review common medications and supplements that can cause positive drug tests in athletes.
  • Define harmful effects of medications and supplements on sports performance.
  • Describe the diagnostic processes and treatments for skin conditions that allow athletes to continue participating.
  • Review the outcomes of various management strategies and preventive measures of specific skin conditions.
  • Examine the specifics of exertion headaches, cervicogenic headaches, altitude-related headaches, exercise migraines, and other sport-related headaches.
  • Investigate effective treatment options like medications and nerve blocks for various headache treatment methods in athletes.
  • Review the necessary steps for patients to safely use cannabis for pain relief and explain its effects on sports participation.
  • Explain the latest concussion detection methods featured in popular media.
  • Describe the latest concussion prevention tools used in professional leagues.
